Turn on your Cloud

How to turn on Elyra Cloud on Windows, macOS, Linux with a screen or a headless Linux server.

View Markdown

Cloud works on any system. Pick your case:

System How to turn it on
Windows From the app: Settings → Elyra Cloud.
macOS From the app: Settings → Elyra Cloud.
Linux with a screen From the app: Settings → Elyra Cloud.
Headless Linux (server, cloud, SSH) From the installer: on a headless Linux server.

In every case the result is the same: your address https://<your-username>-cloud.elyra.sh now opens this computer.

Before you start

  • An Elyra account with an active license.
  • A username chosen in the account, at app.elyra.sh/conta: it forms the address.
  • The computer on and online for as long as you want to use the Cloud. You do not need to open a port or configure DNS.

Until October 9, 2026, only the Founder plan can turn on Elyra Cloud.

On Windows, macOS and Linux with a screen

Cloud is turned on in the app itself, on the computer where you already use Elyra. The path is the same on all three systems.

  1. Check that Elyra on this computer is activated with your license.
  2. Open Settings and go to Elyra Cloud.
  3. Under Make this computer your Cloud, click Turn on and confirm. If another computer or server was your Cloud, it stops being it.
  4. The card shows Starting… and then Up since the time it came on, with your address and the Copy and Open buttons.

In version 0.0.17, the option is called Serve from this computer and the button is Serve.

While the Cloud is up, you keep using Elyra on this computer as usual: whoever signs in through the address sees the same projects, terminals and cards. The app must stay open: quitting Elyra turns the Cloud off.

So the computer does not sleep

If the computer goes to sleep, the Cloud goes offline until it wakes up. For a computer that will be your Cloud all day:

  • Windows: in Settings → System → Power, set sleep to Never while plugged in.
  • macOS: in System Settings → Battery → Options (or Energy Saver, on desktop models), turn on Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off.
  • Linux with a screen: in the power settings of your environment (GNOME, KDE and others), turn off automatic suspend.

On a laptop, closing the lid usually suspends the computer, even with these options.

On a headless Linux server

For a Linux machine with no monitor, such as a cloud server reached over SSH, Elyra runs as a system service, with no window:

  1. Install with one command: curl -fsSL https://app.elyra.sh/cloud/instalar.sh | sh.
  2. Activate by approving, in your account, the code the terminal shows.

It supports Ubuntu 20.04+ and Debian 11+, on x64 or arm64, with systemd. Windows and macOS do not have this headless mode: on them, Cloud is turned on from the app.

Change which computer is the Cloud

An account has one Cloud at a time. To switch, turn the Cloud on in the other computer, by any of the paths above: the account hands the address over to it, and the previous one stops being the Cloud. The address stays the same.
