Mentioning cards

Point at a card inside a Canvas conversation or terminal without leaving what you were writing.

View Markdown

When you want an agent to look at another card on the board, you do not have to describe where it is: you can point at the card inside the very text you are writing.

How it works

  1. Type > at the start of a line.
  2. The card list appears, with each one’s name, assistant and type.
  3. Keep typing to filter. The list shows at most eight options; when there are more, it tells you how many were left out.
  4. Choose with the keyboard or by clicking.

The trigger is > at the start of a line — mid-sentence it is just the > character. Whatever you typed as a filter is deleted along with the >, and the mention takes its place.

Where it works

Where What happens when you choose
Conversation card composer The mention text is inserted into what you are writing, preserving the cursor position.
Terminal card The mention is pasted into the terminal, as if you had typed it. The > and the filter are deleted.

Keyboard

  • Tab and the arrow keys navigate the list.
  • Enter chooses the highlighted option.
  • Esc closes the list without inserting anything.
  • Space has a role of its own in the list, so it does not get in the way of someone writing.

Limits

  • In the terminal, the mention depends on the session being alive. If the terminal is not ready yet, the notice “This terminal is not ready yet. Try again in a moment.” appears — wait and repeat instead of insisting.
  • The list is limited to eight options. If the card you want does not appear, keep typing: the filter is what brings the rest, not scrolling.
  • A mention is text, not a link. It puts the card’s name into what you wrote; it does not create a line on the board and does not notify the other card.
  • No command-line equivalent: mentioning is an action of whoever is writing on screen.
