A panel error is not all the same thing. The notice that appears in the panel offers different actions depending on the cause, and choosing the wrong action can restart more than necessary.

## Symptom → what to do

| Symptom | Action offered | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| **The session does not open and the panel shows an open refusal** | **Try again** | Redoes the terminal opening, without touching what is already running in the other panels |
| **The panel reports a terminal service failure (working directory lost)** | **Restart the service** | Restarts the service that hosts the terminals |
| **A remote workspace's connection dropped** | **Reconnect** | Reopens the host connection; recovery goes through the reconnection notice, not through a local restart |
| **An agent's panel asks for a restart because the account changed** | **Restart the panel** | Recreates the panel with the agent session; that panel's split arrangement is preserved |
| **You want to report the problem** | **Report** | Opens the reporting path from the notice itself |

## Restarting the terminal service

This action **is not offered for any error**. It appears when the failure bears the mark of a stale service — the case where the working directory was lost — and it **does not appear** on remote connections or when process creation is blocked. In those cases, insisting on a local restart would not solve anything.

**What it reaches:** restarting the service affects **every** terminal it hosts, not just the panel with the error. If you have work in progress in other panels, treat the restart as a broad-impact action.

## Restarting an agent's panel

Restarting an agent's panel **replaces the process**: whatever was not saved in the previous session is lost. What is preserved is the arrangement — that panel's position and splits stay where they were.

## Reconnecting a remote workspace

In a remote workspace, recovery is different: the panel shows the reconnection notice, and the path is to reopen the connection to the host. **Restarting the local service is not the answer to a dropped remote connection** — and, while the connection does not return, the remote panel does not respond.

If the host is unavailable, no action in the panel will solve it: check access to the host before retrying.

## What to do after recovering

1. Confirm the session is responding again.
2. **Re-read the history** — after a recovery, the content may have been restored or restarted; do not assume the previous output is all there.
3. If the problem repeats in the same panel, report it through the notice itself, with what you were doing when it failed.
