Four row-menu actions take the file or folder somewhere else. None of them moves or copies the file: all of them point at the same workspace item.

## Open in terminal

Opens a terminal **in the item's directory**.

- For a folder, it is the direct path to "open a terminal here".
- The resulting terminal belongs to the Terminal screen, with its rules: live session, tabs, panels and restoration.
- If the intent is to work in that directory for a few minutes, this action saves the `cd`.

## Open in the Elyra browser

Opens the file in a **Browser tab** in the app.

- **Only for supported types.** An unsupported type produces a notice, instead of opening an empty tab.
- It is the practical path to look at an HTML file, an image or other content the browser can render.
- The resulting tab belongs to the Browser screen, with its own tabs, profiles and history.

## Place on the Canvas

Materializes a **file card** on the Canvas and closes the extended panel.

- The card itself belongs to the Canvas: position, size, edges and organization are from that domain.
- What this action does is **enqueue the card's creation** and free up screen space.
- With the Canvas mounted, the new card appears centered.

## View in the sidebar

Opens the file in the Inspector's **side panel**, instead of in an editor tab.

- It is the same editor: the side panel reuses the same editing component and the same image viewer.
- **You can edit and save there**, with the save shortcut working.
- **Closing with unsaved changes asks for confirmation** — the panel does not silently discard your work.

When to use it: when you want to consult or adjust a file **without losing sight** of what is on the main screen.

## Summary

| Action | Where it leads | Changes the file? |
|---|---|---|
| Open in terminal | Terminal screen, in the item's directory | No |
| Open in the Elyra browser | Browser screen, with the file open | No |
| Place on the Canvas | A file card on the Canvas | No |
| View in the sidebar | Inspector side panel, editable | Only if you edit and save |

## Limits

- **Open in the browser** depends on the file's type: the supported type list is the one the app knows.
- **Place on the Canvas** depends on the Canvas being mounted for the card to appear centered; the creation is enqueued.
- **View in the sidebar** is the only path in the table where an edit can be written.
